Queen of Tarte

white dress

Last Saturday the girls and I headed out to the countryside of Oregon City to the Land of Tarte. We were first introduced to the Queen of Tarte at the Barn House.  The Queen has her own barn and it is amazing. There was plenty of pretty to see! I am trying to figure out a way to recreate this amazing ceiling fixture on a smaller scale for Tessa’s room! More pretty…  And if you got tired there was even a place to rest! and if you got hungry the [Continue Reading...]

Last night I was laying in bed, ready for sleep when I realized I hadn’t seen one comment that day on my Corn and Blueberry Salad post.  I thought – it must not have posted!  So I jumped out of bed and went into my office to log on to see why it hadn’t posted?! Was something broken on my blog? I logged on and sure enough – there was the Corn and Blueberry Salad post but there were NO COMMENTS!!  I felt so sad. I even went in and [Continue Reading...]

Corn and Blueberry Salad

blue corn

We are having too much fun at our house this week. Clark is home from his European Adventures. Logan is home for a visit before he starts his grown up, real job on Monday. Cali is packing up to head back to college and Tessa has her schedule and is ready to start her Junior year of high school. Today’s post will be a quick one.  I wanted to share this fun and yummy recipe with you because now is the time of year to make it – when you [Continue Reading...]

Wheat Bread

Bread making

As you may remember – or may not – one of my summer goals was to teach my girls how to make wheat bread.  This was my goal, not their goal so there was not a whole lot of enthusiasm on their part. Since we are running out of summer and only have one week left until college girl goes back to school we had to get it done.  Sunday was the day.  What better than a loaf of fresh whole wheat bread to go with Sunday dinner?! I got [Continue Reading...]

Cupcake Catering

sunflower

I did my first official paid catering job this weekend.  I have catered lots of events before but have never actually been paid.  Although I am not interested in becoming a professional caterer I have to admit it was kind of fun! A friend who reads my blog recommended me to a friend of hers that was putting on a 40th birthday party for his wife (what a nice guy!).  She had shown him pictures of the cupcake bar I had done for the wedding and he called and asked [Continue Reading...]

Zucchini Cupcakes with Caramel Frosting

zucchini

Never say never. In my brown sugar cupcake post I told you that I had promised Cali there would be no more cupcakes this summer – well I lied!  I will admit, after all that wedding cupcake baking we did get a little burned out on cupcakes at our house. But when a friend shared her CSA box with us and it was full of zucchini and two of you shared the same zucchini cupcake recipe with me I knew I had to go back on my word. I also needed [Continue Reading...]

Grilled Artichokes

artichoke

Last February I had my first experience with grilled artichokes at our annual Beach Babe and their Boys Valentine Dinner when Chef Merrill prepared and served them.  After my first taste I knew I had to learn how to make them. One of my readers left a comment on a post telling me about these wonderful artichokes they had at a restaurant and then she very kindly sent me a link to a recipe for them from the Food Network! Using the recipe from Ellen, along with a few tips and [Continue Reading...]

Grilled Salad

grilled

I have cooked a lot of things on my grill.  Pizza, vegetables and last week we did grilled cheese sandwiches.  You can check out my Facebook page for pictures of the grilled cheese. If you aren’t a fan of Your Homebased Mom on Facebook – please become one! But I have never grilled a salad – until last week! The BBQ I had at my house last week was a potluck.  I provided the burger and sauces.  My guests were asked to bring a salad or a dessert. Most people hold potlucks so [Continue Reading...]

Condiments}Dill Pickle Remoulade and Fire Roasted Garlic Ketchup

dip

I am already beginning to mourn the end of summer even though we still have 3 more weeks to go!  School starts after Labor Day around here. I still have a few things to finish up on my Summer To Do list and so does Cali.  She crossed boating, ice blocking, drive in movie, making ice cream and movie at Pioneer Square off the list this week! One of my favorite parts of summer is all the opportunities we have to grill.  This week I am going to share some fun [Continue Reading...]
